Dr. Nhu Mai, PhD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Washington & Idaho (telehealth only; starting in September 2025)

Hello – Chào, I’m glad to meet you through this website. My name is Dr. Như Mai, Ph.D., licensed psychologist (WA & ID). I was born and raised in Việt Nam and came to the U.S. with my family in early adulthood. Currently, I live in Washington State, a spectacular place in the Pacific Northwest, where I am happy to call home. In my free time, I enjoy experimenting with random recipes, taking care of my indoor plants and garden, and taking long walks or hikes (when I feel adventurous).

Over the past decade, I worked as a psychologist at several university counseling centers, where I provided clinical services, supervision,

and administration in various capacities, including serving as the Clinical Director for three years.

I am excited to work with the providers at NW Intrinsic Psychotherapy. I bring years of professional experience in providing psychotherapy to individuals from different walks of life with a wide range of concerns.

Therapeutic Approach

I practice psychotherapy using evidence-based interventions from many approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Trauma-Informed Therapy, Existential-Humanistic Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Compassion- and Mindfulness-Based Therapy. Drawing from these modalities, I select effective interventions to address your needs and goals at any stage of your evolving and dynamic life.

I view psychotherapy as a personalized, active, and collaborative process that fosters meaningful change. As a psychologist, I offer a supportive space where all aspects of human experience can be explored, understood, and transformed with openness, curiosity, and compassion. While psychotherapy may not have all the answers or solutions to every issue, it can broaden your perspectives, improve clarity, and empower your choices to let go of certain expectations, beliefs, and narratives that limit your life. My hope is to support you in cultivating a kind and honest relationship with yourself, accessing your inner strength and wisdom, and practicing helpful skills that alleviate emotional suffering and rekindle joy and interconnection as you navigate life's challenges.

I look forward to accompanying you on your path of self-discovery, growth, and wholeness.
